Welcome to our little corner of the web.
As the blurb at right says, Axis Mundi is a small collection of witches and pagans interested in building an active community in which to grow and celebrate. Our goals are simple: to live the lives that we think pagans ought to live, in the company of others who wish likewise. This isn't to say the group dictates such things, however – each of us has our own definitions of such things. At the end of the day, we're something of a tribe. We are here for one another, and take joy in one another being here.
What is an Outer Court?
An Outer Court is a community of pagans associated with a Traditional Witchcraft coven. The members of the coven are also members of the Outer Court, and the coven only grows when someone from the Outer Court is interested in joining the coven.
The Outer Court & the Coven
The association between a coven and Outer Court is an interesting one. The Outer Court is usually run by priests-in-training of the coven, allowing them some experience in things like ritual leadership and teaching. The Outer Court also benefits from having a priesthood immediately attached to and available to them for anything from house-blessings and rites of passage to just having someone to sit down with and chat when things get a little rough.
In return, the coven has the opportunity to get to know Seekers. Working in a coven is an intimate spiritual experience, and it can be dangerous to that intimacy to introduce completely unknown factors to it, such as a new person. Through association with the Outer Court, the coven gets the chance to get to know those who are interested in training into the priesthood of the Craft, to determine whether or not they would negatively impact the group dynamic, or would add to it.
